ADDINGTON MARKET Prime Cattle And Sheep Values Make Some Recovery

Prime sheep and prime cattle were in smaller supply at the Addington market yesterday, and values made some recovery on the easier rates ruling at the previous two sales.

Although there was only a small entry of wethers, values showed no lift. Few twotooths fetched more than $7.50, and many of the four-tooths were sold for less than $6.50.

Ewes showed a useful improvement, with a number of sales at more than $6 a head. Prime lambs had a firm sale. For quality, it was a very good yarding. In the prime cattle section, both heavy-weight and medium steers and heifers recovered last week’s decline. Selling was harder in the dairy section. It included very few lots which would grace a reasonable dairy herd Store cattle continued to sell well, with two-year-old steers to $128.50 and in-calf heifers to $126. ' Store Sheep There was again only a small yarding of store sheep. It consisted of 600 hoggets and 300 breeding ewes with lambs at foot. The store hogget section was of plain to average quality, and values were firm, with summer-shorn wether lambs selling from $5.30 to $5.70, sum-mer-shorn Romney ewe hoggets to $7.05, and woolly quarterbred ewe hoggets at $6.95. Ewes with lambs at foot sold well. Most sales ranged from $4.50 to $4.65, at which the market was about 20c a head stronger.

A pen of 12 Dorset-Down ewes, with 17 lambs at foot fetched $6 all counted. They were from a registered flock, but did not carry a transfer. Sales of store sheep included: Breeding ewes: Tiverton Farm 'Leeston), 43 ewes and 49 Corriedale lambs at $4.30; T. M. Banks (Coutts Island), 20 ewes, and 23 lambs at $4.50; T. H.
