HIJACKER SUCCEEDS
Plane Lands In Cuba (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright! PITTSBURGH, Aug. 25. A Trans World Airlines Boeing 727, with 85 persons on board, was hijacked yesterday on a flight from Chicago to Philadelphia. It landed at Pittsburgh, refuelled and departed for Cuba. A T.W.A. spokesman said that the pilot taxied the plane to a hangar area at the Pittsburgh aerodrome. In accordance with the hijacker's instruction, the plane doors were not opened. A fuel truck drove up to the plane, the tanks were filled and the plane took off. The spokesman said the pilot “filed a flight plan for Havana.” According to an airline spokesman in Chicago, the plane was hijacked over Lake Michigan shortly after take off. The hijacker told the pilot that his accomplice would “blow up the plane” if he did not follow instructions.
It has been reported that the jet landed safely in Havana.
