CLERICAL CLAIM

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 23. The Post Office Association will hold an emergency meeting today to discuss its claim for a new salary scale for clerical workers. An offer made to the Combined State Service Organisations on Thursday by the State Services Co-ordinating Committee was considered totally unacceptable to the Post Office Association, the secretary (Mr L E. Reddish) said tonight The association would today decide what action should be taken, he said. Post Office staff in many districts have already resolved to stop work if necessary in support of their claims. It is understood that a full-scale stoppage will be one of the alternative courses of action discussed today. If this is decided on, a secret ballot of all members involved will be held. The Public Service Association, which also wants a new salary scale for clerical workers, has authorised its executive committee to call for direct action if necessary.
