Veteran cricketer enjoys jogging
'THE winner of the vetx eran’s section of the Governor’s Bay - Lyttelton handicap road running race on Saturday, N. Trembath (Presbyterian), returned to harriers as a “jogger” four years ago to strengthen his legs for cricket. Now 55, Trembath, who plays in the Suburban cricket competition, has not missed a season of cricket in 40 yean. . A member of the Presbyterian Harrier Club in Ms younger days, Trembath gave up competition when only 22, in 1937. A few yean ago he found that his legs were troubling him at cricket, particularly after a spell of fast bowling. About that time, Trembath mentioned this to C. C. Gordon, a member of the Presbyterian harriers and one of the oldest regular competitors in harrier races. Gordon Suggested that he try jogging to strengthen his legs. Trembath’s performance in the Governor’s BayLyttelton race shows that he has graduated through the jogging stage, however, for his time of 45min 15sec for the six miles was close, to an average of 7min 30sec a mile an accomplishment some younger harriers would still be proud to claim. Trembath admitted after the race that he was now beginning to enjoy his “jogging” more than his cricket
