Manufacturers’ Exports Increased In June

Exports by manufacturers increased in the June month, and with a value of $12,300,000, were above the $10,000,000 mark for the fifth month in succession. This lifted total exports by manufacturers in the June trading year to the new peak of $122,800,000.

The annual total was $27,600,000 more than in the previous year, an increase of 29 per cent Exports of forest products reached a new seasonal peak in June. The group comprises all wood, pulp and paper pro-

ducts but excludes logs, and the value of these exports exceeded $5,000,000 in a month for the first time. Pulp and paper exports in the month reached a new peak of $3,700,000. This achievement lifted

exports of forest products to a new peak of $12,300,000 for the June quarter and $42,300,000 for the year. This was nearly $5,000,000, or 13 per cent, more than in the previous year. In the “other manufacturing” sector, with forest and horticultural products - excluded, growth in excess of expectations was maintained across the board. Exports in the June year reached $73,700,000, compared with $52,300,000 in the previous year.
