Industrials Mixed On Australian Markets

Mining shares eased on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. After a reasonably firm opening most issues closed off the top and many sold below yesterday’s closing levels. Industrials were mixed.

The Poseidon bid for Lake View and Samin created early interest in Lake View which peaked at 250 c before closing at 220 c for a 65c rise on the day. There was support for Poseidon on the opening with sales at $BB. However, this support was short lived and the shares finished at $Bl for a $2 loss. Samin was unimpressive dropping 50c to 1050 c. Leading industrials were mixed. 8.H.P., Burns Philp, and Woolworths were steady.

C.S.R. recovered most of yesterday’s fall at 710 c. Boral and Hooker both added small amounts.

Thiess continued to attract strong support closing 18c higher. David Jones was firm although Tooth and Tooheys eased.
