TEACHERS’ PAY

Disappointment With Talks (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. The New Zealand Educational 'lnstitute is disappointed with talks on teachers’ pay held in Wellington today. The president of the N.Z.E.I. (Mr H. M. Hunter) and the national secretary (Mr E. J. Simmonds) had informal discussions with the chairman of the Education Service Committee (Mr J. L. Hunter) and also with the Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys). “We had hoped the Government would have been in a position to make us a firm offer,” Mr Simmonds said this evening, “but all we were able to get was an assurance that negotiations with the Educational Service Committee should produce a better result than had been obtained so far.”
