Harrier comeback?

A FTER a break from competition of seven years, a former Canterbury harrier champion, J. K. Macdonald (Olympic), showed in the Governor’s Bay - Lyttelton road race recently that he is regaining sufficient form to be among the top competitors in the province at least up to about six miles.

Holder of the record for the Governor’s Bay race from its inception in 1962 until 1968 with a time of 29min Msec for the six miles, Macdonald did extremely well in this year’s event to record 31min 20sec when making a comeback at the age of 34.

Because of his limited training background, Macdonald does not intend starting in the longer road races, such as the 12-mile events from Pleasant Point to Timaru. With the chance of improving still more in the next few weeks, Macdonald should prove useful to

the Olympic Club for its teams for the TakaheAkaroa relay on September 12.
