Student Superman

(N.Z. Frets Association/ WELLINGTON, Aug. 20.

Ten students—including one wearing a Superman suit with a giant “N” on his chest—were refused admittance to the public gallery in Parliament Buildings today because of their dress.

The gallery has been a more colourful place than usual this week as a number of students, in Wellington for the universities arts festival, have taken the opportunity to listen to debates.

The students refused ad-

mittance late this afternoon had been sitting in the gallery earlier, but left the

buildings briefly. They were refused readmittance by the Sergeant-at-Arms (Wing Commander R. uL McKay) on the ground that their dress did not show proper respect for Parliament

Apart from the bright blue Superman suit, most of the long-haired male students wore roll-necked jerseys, but some wore outsize neckties on coloured shirts. Some of the girls wore sack dresses, and most carried flowers or wore beads.
