CUSTOMS SEARCH
Intensive searches by customs officers of the overseas vessel Cretic yesterday failed to uncover any more caches of drugs. Three lots of marijuana, totalling about 6oz in weight, were found on the ship when it berthed at Lyttelton on Sunday, its first port of call since Balboa.
Four thousand cigarettes, several pounds of tobacco and a bottle of rum were also found hidden on the ship by members of the Customs flying squad from Wellington which boarded the vessel when it tied up. Some of the Wellington officers have returned to the North Island but teams are still searching the vessel.
