Hotel Awaiting Govt Guarantee

WELLINGTON, July 29.
A proposal to build an 18-storey, 150-bedroom tourist hotel at a cost of $3 million on the corner of Kilmore Street and Durham Street is awaiting a Government decision to guarantee $1 million.
The managing director of Williams Holdings (Mr A. D P. Williams) said in Wellington last evening that the site had been bought from Black well Motors, Ltd, but no guarantee had been given by the Government Mr Williams was in Christchurch yesterday with an executive of American Airlines, Dr Lloyd Jones. The ho‘el will be built by a conconsortium of Williams Holdings and American Airlines as part of a chain of hotels in the Pacific and New Zealand.
“We are still waiting,” said Mr Williams. “There is nothing new to report. We can’t go ahead without the guarantee —that’s the way it is done “The tourist people have al! the required information. We have even bought the land. ’ Referring to his visit to Christchurch, Mr Williams said: “That must have stirred up interest in the scheme. I wish it meant more, hi-t there is really nothing new.” American Airlines flights will begin to Auckland next week.
