TROTTING Big Profit Of $32,911 For Auckland Club

Rugby Junior

A profit of $32,911 is shown in the accounts to be presented at the annual meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club to be held today. The Auckland club is one of few major galloping or trotting clubs to have shown a sizeable profit during the last season.

Lest season'the Auckland club showed a loss of $25,812, and a major share of. the difference is the $83,157 -increase in the club’s share of the profits of the T.A.B. Increases were also shown this season in totalisator receipts, which amounted to $212,010, compared with $175,345, and gates and stand returns, $88,402, against $76,289. Stakes distributed at the club’s 13 meetings amounted to $234,770, a rise of $22,310 on the $212,310 distributed last season. The Forbury Park club has shown a loss of $582 on its year’s operations, compared with a loss of $19,530 last year. This figure was reached after allowing $12,226 for depredation and increasing stakes by $6950 to $98,850. The club’s share of the profits of the T.A.B, amounted to $56,207, an increase of $22,487. The club expects to receive a similar amount next October. On-course betting increased by $70,186, while the offcourse total rose by $48,631. The club raced on Anzac Day, off-course betting on the double showing a decline of $47,994 resulting from the late opening of the T.A.B. Attendances over the seven meetings increased by 4319, and gates receipts rose by $2812. A terminating jackpot was run on the seven meetings, but it did not prove as successful as anticipated. However, it attracted more patrons on the final night of the season. The dub is~ investigating the possibility of improving lighting round the track by using lamps similar to those being used at Addington Raceway and Alexandra Park. Profitable The chairman of the Albion Park Trotting Club (Dr C. Uhr) has announced figures that must be the envy of all trotting officials. His club, which has been operating for less than two years, was breaking square on its meet-

Ings without T-A.B. revenue. “We expect a T.A.B. dividend this year of about $140,000, which will go back into the sport,” Dr Uhr said. The fact that Albion Park can make ends meet without the T.A.B. “hand-out” makes it unique among both racing , and trotting clubs in New Zealand and Australia. Six Entries Six horses trained in the Auckland area have already been entered for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting on August 15 and 22. They are Paula, Paulette, Great Girl, Great Lady, Monsignor, and Blue Dawn. Victoria was to have made the trip, but she has gone amiss and is unlikely to race again. Wheel Discs Wheel discs, made from clear plastic, will be mandatory at all trotting meetings starting from August 1. These are used extensively in the United States, and other countries are considering ordering their use. The New Zealand Trotting Conference decided some months ago that the discs be mandatory from the start of the 1970-71 season. 37 Qualifiers Thirty-seven horses qualified to start at totalistator meetings at trials run during the season by the Mid-Canter-

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Petone prop, G. B. Campbell, has been chosen for the junior Rugby trials at Levin tomorrow. He will replace R. Moore (Bay of Plenty), who has been injured.
