Shewetta, Royal Mount and Superspan ran sparkling semi-final trials at Wingatui yesterday for their engagements on the first day of the Grand National meeting at Riccarton. Shewetta (J. Pankhurst) and her stablemate, Royal Mount (D. Adams) sped over five furlongs in Imin ssec, keeping up a strong gallop over the last three in 39 3-ssec. Impressive Run The Cashmere Plate candidate Stormy Seas (J. Pankhurst) was most impressive in running five furlongs in Imin 7 4-ssec, after taking 27. sec for the first two furlongs. He finished clear of Bosa

Nova (J. Bro-wn), and could have improved on his effort had he been asked. Superspan, ridden by his race rider, J. Pankhurst, was taken along quietly over the early parts of his six furlongs in Imin 21 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. "Cedar Bank (G. Scott) and Orlando (B. Kennedy), ran a smart half mile in. 52 3-ssec, the first furlong in 13sec. Cedar Bank is a form light-weight runner in the Trial Hurdles. Gay Peter showed that he was coming along nicely in a fresh preparation by covering the same ground in 53sec, the first furlong in 12 4-ssec. Hopes to Ride B. J. Anderton is still suffering from an attack of influenza, but hopes to be able to ride on Saturday. His mounts will in-, elude Watallan and Wattle’s Wish. However, he says that Watallan is a doubtful starter in the Winter Cup unless the track is soft.
