Ferry Hits Ramp

CN.Z. Press Awoe<otWn> WELLINGTON, July 28. The Cook Strait rail ferry ' Aramoana crashed Into the passenger ramp as It berthed at the Wellington rail ferry terminal about 10 p.m. today. Eye-witnesses said the ship was more than 20 feet out of line when it backed into the ramp. A stiff southerly was blowing at the time. .

The port side of the stem strack a concrete pile supporting the ramp, tearing a Oft gash in the stern. The ship went forward again after the impact and berthed without further incident The stern doors were undamaged. Because of the damage the ship did not sail to Picton tonight . A Railways Department spokesman said it was hoped the Aramoana would be back in service tomorrow afternoon.
