$5000 Gift To Paraplegics
A gift of $5OOO from a Christchurch paraplegic has boosted the Canterbury Paraplegic Association’s appeal for a rehabilitation hostel to $18,500. One of the appeal organisers (Mr J. J. Darby) said yesterday that most of the money received since the appeal was launched on July 13 had been from individuals. Approaches were now being made to business firms and companies in Christchurch. During the next four weeks of the appeal the association hopes to raise another $41,500. The total cost of the 18-20 bed hostel will be between $175,000 and $200,000, but it is hoped that the Government will provide a 2 to 1 subsidy to make up the balance.
