Gifts Made To University
As a means of marking the fortieth conference of the Anzac nations held in Christ- - church in 1968, the University of Canterbury has purchased | a painting by Mr W. A Sutton 1 of the University of Canterbury, School of Fine Arts. Announcing this at yesterday’s meeting of the University Council, the Vice Chancellor (Profesor N. C Phillips), said that finance for 1 the purchase had come from a gift of $350 supplemented by a small grant from the uni versity’s general fund. The painting, one of a series of four by Sutton depicting the seasons, is entitled “Summer" and will be hung in the vestibule of the new arts library now being built at Ham Other gifts announced by Profesor Phillips were: A collection of original works by Professor A. Wall from Mr J. H. E. Schroder; a copy of an Australian music survey from the Australian High Commis sioner (Sir Edwin Hicks); a display panel of 38 Australian hardwoods from the Jarrah Timber Company and others.
