Commission Hearing
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Royal Commission on Racing began hearing final addresses yesterday. The main points expressed were:— Racing Owners’ and Trainers’ Federation (Mr L. W. Brown, Q.C.): The need for a substantial increase in stakes, to be brought about by tax relief; a statutory controlling body for racing; and a measure of centralisation. T.A.B. Agents’ Association (Mr F. D. O’Flynn, Q.C.): The position of T.A.B. agents in regard to negotiation and arbitration on payment. Greyhound Racing Association (Mr K. Ryan): Equalisator and totalisator permits for greyhound racing. Trotting Owners’, Trainers' and Breeders’ Association (Mr I. A Borrin): The injustice of licence holders—who had the biggest investment in trotting—hot being represented on the controlling body; the need for an executive rather than an advisory controlling body; and the heed for tax relief. Trotting Conference (Mr B. McClelland): That the control of trotting should not be changed and that recommended alternatives were unsatisfactory.
