Status Fit For Levin
•‘The Press” Special Service I PALMERSTON NORTH. ' Status looked fit when he worked at Awapuni yesterday " morning in preparation for the “ Levin meeting tomorrow. He } was not at his best when fourth •* in the Manawatu Hunt Cup but ° should race well in the Gavin ' Parkin Memorial Steeplechase. J The trainer, E. Temperton, had thoughts about a trip south for ?jthe Grand National meeting, but' 2f he abandoned these after the| 2jManawatu Hunt fixture. q! H. Rauhihi took Status over ijitwo rounds on the plough. The 2[horse sprinted the last half mile 9 1 each time and pulled up very «I well. He will meet a fairly weak n field at Levin and might gain 31 an overdue success. 3 j Working on the inside trial, 3 Silver Knight and Purdie ran 2 half a mile together in 51 3-5 2'sec, the last three in 38 3-ssec. j! Big things are expected from 11 this pair in the spring. They l ! will resume in the Ryder Stakes i at Levin, with Purdie probably 1 the more forward of the two, d though he has drawn fairly a wide. Purakau and Cuban Queen made good time when running five furlongs in train 2 4-ssec, the last three in 38 2-ssec. Pura1 kau has not shown much speed early in his hurdle races to b date so his smart time was 3 quite surprising. He might go 9 very close in the Langford 8 Hurdles at Levin. 8 Cuban Queen was expected to ‘ Igo well at Woodville but was ! not at her best. Flying Crest completed five i furlongs in Imin 9sec, the last [three in 41sec and he was not after time. .W. D. Skelton will ride him in the Hatuma Hani dicap and if races up to his I best he should be prominent. Golden Aurora ran six furlongs in lmin 20 3-ssec, the last three in 38 3-ssec. The ground beat her at the Manawatu Hunt meeting but on better footing she is capable of an improved showing in the Matt Wills Han--21 dicap. 2 Blanaid, which looks fairly 1 forward for a fresh start in the 0 Apprentices’ Hack Handicap, 0 ran five furlongs in Imin 3 2-5 0 sec, the last three in 38sec. She 0 has plenty of ability and may 0 not be out of it tomorrow.
