FIREMAN INJURED
(N.Z. Preu Association) HAMILTON, July 22. A young Hamilton fireman was injured when a wall ' heater containing boiling wax ! exploded in his face at a house in Avalon Drive, Hamilton, this afternoon. Donald Roper, aged 21, of , Ngaruawahia, was attending ; his first fire call on his first , day of permanent duty with ) the Hamilton brigade. , The force of the blast threw him 10 feet into the garden of i the house and shattered most i of the windows in the house. 1 The hallway and carpets 1 caught fire. I Firemen used hose reels to extinguish the blaze while ' others attended Mr Roper. 1 A Waikato Hospital spokes- ! man described Mr Roper’s . condition this afternoon as ! fairly satisfactory. The Waikato Power Board t is investigating the-explosion. 1
