Maori Studies Planned
The University of Canterbury would probably introduce one or more units of study in Maori in 1972, a meeting of the University of Canterbury Council was told yesterday. In answer to a question from the president of the Canterbury University Students’ Association (Mr D. B. C. Cuthbert) on progress in the development of Maori studies at the university, the Vice-Chancellor (Professor N. C. Phillips) said that while he had no formal knowledge of this matter the faculty of arts was recommending the introduction of one “and possibly more” units of study in Maori.
“This will come up for consideration for development in 1972," he said.
