AUCKLAND. Spray Do one and Matanuku Blue head an unuually light Waikato attack on the feature events at the Grand National meeting. The pair, which won the Great Northern Steeplechase and Great Northern Hurdles respectively earlier in the winter, will be flown from Auckland on Wednesday.
Spray Doone’s major engagement is the Grand National Steeplechase, In which he looks very well placed with only 10-0 He has won 118,030 from his jumping starts this winter. The usual rider, C- R- Lewis, will ride Spray Doone. his only mount so far.
Myset and Ruakiwi Lass, stablemates of Matanuku Blue, which were also entered for the meeting, will not go to Riccarton.
H. Green will ride Matanuku Blue in the Jumper’ Flat nexl Saturday and the Grand Nat ional Hurdles tomorrow week As well, he will be on Paddy’s Escort in the big steeplechase
The Te Puke jumpers. Victory Prince and Damar, will be on hand. Victory Prince will contest the Grand National Steeplechase, and Damar the Jumpers' Flat and the big hurdles. G. M. Carson, injured in a fail from Chief Warrior at Trentham earlier in the month, is hopeful of receiving a medical clearance today. All going well, he will ride the pair. Macquarrie, a regular visitor to Riccarton winter meetings in the last few years, will not go this year. His trainer, N. Crawford, said yesterday he would reserve him for hunt cups during the spring. Rehandicaps Rehandicaps for the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting at Biecarton next Saturday are:— Enfield Steeplechase: Free Frenchman, 31b to 9-3; Silver Savant. 41b to 0-4. Cashmere Plate: Lord Nelaon, 41b to 8-4. Paparua Handicap: Shipboard, 41b to 9-2. Avonhead Hack Handicap: Bannock, 31b to 8-3; Sony, 41b to 8-13.
