Stylish Major A Close Third
Stylish Major, driven by W. Hudson, finished third, in the $U5125,000 Roosevelt International Trot at the Roosevelt Raceway on Saturday, behind the Canadian representative Fresh Yankee and the French horse Tidelium Pelo. In a telephone call from the United States yesterday, Mr C. C. Scott, Stylish Major’s trainer, told his son Mr B. Scott, of Christchurch, that Stylish Major had raced near the rear of the field until the home turn and that he then ran
on strongly in the straight but failed narrowly to catch the winner. Stylish Major ear n t $15,000 for his third placing. Mr Scott said that he had been invited to race Stylish Major In a similar event at Roosevelt next Saturday. The winner, Fresh Yankee, which was driven by W. J. O’Brien, trotted the mile and a quarter in 2:32 1-5, and beat Tidelium by a neck. Stylish Major was a further half-length away.
