FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A ridge of high pressure is moving off to the east as a low pressure trough approaches from the Tasman Sea. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate north or northwest winds; showers in the far west; cloudy at times elsewhere; cool. Outlook: rain and snow in the Alps, fair elsewhere. Marlborough and Nelson. Moderate north-west winds; cloudy; some showers developing in Nelson in the morning and in parts of Marlborough during the afternoon; cool. Outlook: some showers. Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate northerlies; rain at first during the morning, but some breaks later in the day; cool. Outlook: cold westerlies, with showers. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
