Imported Meat Dearer

(N Z P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, July 17. London’s wholesale meat suppliers increased their prices of imported meat today, within hours of the closing of Britain’s docks because of the national dock strike. At Smithfield Market, the biggest distribution centre for the meat trade, Argentine beef was about Is per lb dearer. New Zealand beef was about la per lb dearer, and New Zealand lamb was Id higher. The prices of English pork and Irish beef were also raised, but not by as much as the products from the Argentine and New Zealand. If the Government obtains emergency powers to deal with the strike it will lose authority to impose maximum prices for food.
