Trial Beef Shipment
A trial shipment of New Zealand beef in three insulated containers will leave Auckland for the United States about the middle of next month. It will be the first such shipment from New Zealand. The experiment is a joint venture between the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board; Overseas Containers New Zealand, Ltd, and Associated Container Transporta: tion (N.Z.), Ltd; and the Shaw Savill and Albion Company, Ltd. The insulated containers of carton beef from various Auckland meat works will be loaded aboard the Icenic for Norfolk, Virginia, or New York. The purpose of the venture is to try to establish the procedures for inspection, clearance, and handling of meat in North America before the container service starts operating to East Coast ports next year. It will also give the hoard experience in shipping meat in unitised form.
