Auction Firms In Timaru Merge

TIMARU, July 17. The amalgamation of two long-established auctioneering firms in Timaru—Macfarlane and Company, Ltd, and Morton and Company, Ltd—was announced today.

Morton and Company was founded in 1906, and' Macfarlane and Company began in 1931 as a branch of the parent firm in Christchurch. Both firms have been fruit and produce auctioneers. Morton and Company’s business has included real estate agency, hotel, probate and land valuations, and antique and general auctions. This part of the business will also be continued by the new firm. Key staff of the firms will remain the same and the new firm of Morton Macfarlane (Timaru), Ltd, will conduct its business from Morton’s present premises in George Street. The managing director of Morton and Company (Mr H.

A. Morton) will be chairman of directors of the new company. The managing director will be Mr H. N. Dyne, now bead of the fruit and produce department at Mortons. The present manager at Macfarjane and Company, Mr A. Ward, will be the manager, and Mr I. S. Harvey assistant manager. Morton and Company, Ltd, is at present making extensive alteration to its George Street and Station Street buildings to provide space for the increasing fruit and produce turnover. A neighbouring premises, Craigie’s Building, is owned by’the company and the ground floor will become a parking area for clients. The first floor will be rented as offices.
