It has come to my notice that a new boat sales comCany is offering and selling oats at 10 per cent deposit, and balance over 2 years. Whether this is legal or not legal is beside the point. Do not be fooled, it is bad business practice for one thing but your payments will be too high and let’s face it, if you can only afford 10 per cent deposit, you cannot afford a boat unless it’s a canoe or dinghy. So do not let your judgment and good sense be carried away by low deposit offers on overpriced boats, particularly jet boats, as they are very expensive to run. And remember, under the Chattels Security and Hire Purchase Act, if you cannot keep your payments up and the boat is repossessed and is resold for less than what is owing on it you, the conditional purchaser, are legally liable for the balance. So do not over commit yourself. Do not repent at leisure. Think matters over well.
