BOOK ON AXEMEN
Stories Sought By Author A man who calls himself a bushman of the old school, and says that he started woodchopping as a sport almost 50 years ago, intends to write a book on axemen and the origin of their sport Mr J. Dahm, patron of the Hawke’s Bay centre of the New Zealand Axemen’s Union, will write about the Maori stone axe, the white man’s iron axe, the old bush-felling days, and the pit and cross-cut saw era. Mr Dahm’s book will include an appraisal of chopping as a competitive sport and an account of the modern steel racing axe. However, he wants stories from readers on those early days for inclusion in his book, “The People of the Axe.” Those interested can write to him at Main South Road, Waipukurau, Hawke’s Bay.
