While the Otago sheep and lamb kill has increased only slightly this season the cattle kill at the province’s three freezing works has risen by 24 per cent The cattle kill, at 35,864. is up almost 7000 on the previous season. At the New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s Burnside works, where a new beef floor is now in use, the kill has almost doubled, from 7000 last season to 12,000 so far this season. The province’s total sheep and lamb kill increased from 3,194,402 to 3,208,796. Increases were recorded at Finegand and Burnside, but because of very dry conditions in North Otago, there was a reduction in the kill at Pukeuri.
