Solo Champion To Race Cars
The former New Zealand solo speedway motor-cycle champion, M. Burt, of Christchurch,
lis unlikely to race motor-cycles again because of a serious leg {injury he suffered in a crash in England last year.
However, he has no intention of withdrawing from speedway .competition. He has bought the >midget racing car driven last season by J. Tiekink and plans to contest the midgot car class at Templeton next season.
Tiekink, a Dutchman, has returned to the Netherlands for' an indefinite period. The sidecar class at Templeton will have a boost through the arrival in Christchurch of the Auckland sidecar rider, C. Howie. He plans to race at Templeton next season using a local competitor as his passenger. Two Auckland solo riders, R. Valentine and A. Stewart, will also compete at Templeton throughout the next season. The opening date of the new season was tentatively set for the Saturday night of Show Week-end, at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Speedway Association this week. Mr R. O. Lang was re-elected unopposed as president for the sixth successive year. His wife. Mrs E. R Lang, was appointed secretary-treasurer.
Other officers elected were: Patron, Mr D. M. Bain; vicepresidents, Messrs R. T. Hall. R Mead, E. T. Mora. E. Hood: solo motor-cycle representative. R. McKinlay: three-quarter midget representative. D Richens: midget car representative. L. Miller: supermodified stock rod representative, J. Annan; management committee, all above with the exception of the patron.
