They maintain 33 homes and hospitals catering for 1340 persons, at a cost of more than $1 million a year. In addition, the associations care for more than 200 children in their children’s homes, help more than 200 unmarried mothers each year, run 20 hostels for the young, provide family and personal counselling and relief services, and maintain chaplains in hospitals and prisons at a further cost of about $260,000 a year, said Mr McKenzie.
