‘Miss N.Z.’ Returns
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 16. A visit to the “land of the midnight sun,” a meetwith John Rowles, and h’ing the victim of a Japanese panty-hose thief were part of the adventures of “Miss New Zealand,” Miss Glenys Treweek, who competed in the recent “Miss Universe” contest. She arrived at Auckland airport this morning looking fresh and completely unchanged after mixing with the world’s most beautiful girls. Miss Treweek spoke wth awe about her visit to Alaska, where the sun shines continuously for six months of the year. She said she had had a silver watch stolen in Tokyo, and tall Japanese girls stole panty-hose from hotel rooms because Japanese manufacturers made only short fittings.
Her Maori costume was also stolen, but she was not sorry about that because it made her look flatchested, she said. The memories are not all unpleasant, however. The Japanese—who called her the girl from the “land of the sheeps”—gave her a watch to replace the stolen ono.
A lasting impression of the United States was hamburgers for breakfast, lunch and tea. Miss Treweek is going back to Wellington where she will take a short spell before doing promotional work for the Wool Board.
