Meneleus Impresses With Sprint At Riccarton

Meneleus and Bunny Girl, stablemates but rival candidates for the Graigmore Handicap at Washdyke, sprinted attractively in training at Riccarton yesterday.

Meneleus (E. G. Low) beat Kurd Mahal (M. Skelton) by a length over three furlongs and his time of 40 4-ssec was meritorious on the small No. 7 grass, which had taken a soaking in the previous 12 hours.

Bunny Girl (Jackson) was paired with Vodka Lad (Low), another member of the J. L. Barr team, for three furlongs. They finished a good gallop on terms- in 41 3-ssec. Later this time was equalled by Carafin (Meier), which gave Warrington (Gullery) a start of almost three lengths and finished alongside. Carafin is one of the ob-

vious prospects for the second leg of the T.A.B. double at Washdyke after a win over the same distance on that course on July 4.

One Spot (Reuben), a dashing performer on the tracks, also recorded 41 3-ssec. He is not in at Washdyke on Saturday. Silver Charm (Sanderson) recorded 44 4-ssec to round off her preparation for the Gleniti Maiden Stakes. She will be attempting to improve on seconds at her last two Every Post (Tucker) ran his three furlongs in 44 1-Ssec. G. D. Lee has him looking bright for major flat races at the Grand National carnival. Offender (Low) took Imin 29 2-ssec for six furlongs

after running the opening : three in 43 3-ssec. Recent racing should have brought Offender back to his best for his engagement in the Levels Hack at Washdyke. Harold Bank (Mein), a form runner for the Claremont Handicap at Washdyke, could have easily bettered his Imin 30 2-ssec for six furlongs. Pseudonym (R. McCann), which has not raced through the winter, but is well forward for the new season, ran six furlongs with his usual keenness in Imin 27 2-ssec, the opening three in 43 23>sec. Royal Rye (Stewart) followed in Imin 27 3-ssec, the opening three in 42sec. Sony (A. Reuben) had a good weight up when he ran his six furlongs in Imin 27 3-ssec, the final three in 44sec. He developed winning formquickly for R. B. Taggart’s stable and is one of the stronger chances in the second leg of the T.A.B. double at Washdyke. Sweet Nothings (Kerkvliet) was trailing Lockett (G. Lee) at the three-furlongs, but ran up quickly on the outside and the pair went to the post on terms in 43sec. Sweet Nothings will race at the Grand National meeting. Expel and Uncertain, now being trained by G. D. Lee, did well to run three furlongs on terms in 41sec. Haxton (Mein) and Pleasure Pal (P. Smith) sprinted in from the three furlongs in 43 3-ssec. Lord Nelson and Walaroo followed in 43sec.
