BOYCOTT OF LECTURES
‘lrresponsible Leadership’
The boycott of lectures proposed by the University of Canterbury Students’ Association today could harm only the students concerned, as it was their progress which would suffer, said Mr R. N. Gibson, the chairman of the University National Club, in a statement yesterday. "This type of action, designed solely to ensure an audience for the association’s indoctrination programme on the war in Indo-China, amounts to a waste of time for the students and staff and a waste of the taxpayers’ money. The boycott can only be interpreted as an act of irresponsible leadership. “The University National Club strongly urges students to treat the association’s request with the disdain it deserves. We feel sure the majority of responsible students are well aware of the folly of the boycott.
“If the association’s meeting on Indo-China is of the importance the association’s leaders obviously feel, it could well have been held on a Saturday, thus ensuring that no disruption to the studies of the students who are interested would occur.”
