UNWANTED BOXERS

‘Angry Assn To Act’ (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The two Fijian boxers who appeared in the Wellington Town Hall on Wednesday night are unlikely to be invited to box in New Zealand again. Mansoor Ali and Seva Mocesui lost their respective light-weight and welterweight bouts, both voluntarily conceding defeat. Ali refused to get up after falling to the canvas in his fight against R. Redden (Wellington). He has flown home without his share of the purse but with the knowledge that the Wellington Boxing Association intends to ask the New Zealand Boxing Council to rescind his licence to fight in New Zealand.

He met the Wellington B.A. yesterday morning and failed to convince it that his withdrawal was warranted. Mocesui was felled by a punch of only moderate force from the New Zealand welterweight champion, G. Smith. He sat, apparently in no discomfort, while the referee counted him out.

He was paid his purse but he, too, is likely to have his licence to box in New Zealand cancelled. Mocesui’s decision to quit was even more surprising than Ali’s for on the judge’s cards he was even on points. The fights proved another disappointment for boxing fans. And to make matters worse for the Wellington 8.A., the light-weight title fight between Redden and R. Carstairs (Christchurch), scheduled for July 30, has had to be deferred until August 20. Carstairs will not be fit to fight until then.
