Third Time Lucky For United Club
The national league soccer club, Christchurch United, has found third time lucky—but even then only just—in its bid to arrange a match against a Dunedin Select XI i in Christchurch.
After ground conditions had all but frustrated the club for the third time, the Air Force authorities at Wigram last night came to United’s rescue with the use, of its ground at Wigram for the match with the Dunedin team on Sunday. Twice before the match has had to be postponed at the last minute when grounds were out of order, and the third attempt, too, was threatened after English Park was ruled out for play on Sunday and all other grounds
were similarly affected by this week’s heavy rainfall. The composite Dunedin team, a forerunner of an Otago bid for national league status if one of the contriibuting clubs wins the southjern league championship this I season, will arrive in Christchurch on Saturday evening. The match on Sunday will start at 2.30 p.m. The United team includes I nine of the side that defeated Hungaria in a national league match last Saturday, and has two talented schoolboy players, N. Francis and I. Perry, among the reserves. The team is: W. Weir; P. Frost, S. Squire, K. France, A. Westwood: T. Conlley, T. Haydon: B. Wilkinson. 'G. Dacombe, R. Taylor, F. Madirussan. Reserves: C. Attridge, D. Phillips, Francis, Perry.
