GUARANTEE WANTED

Buildings On College Site

Concern that the Education Department would not give an undertaking that temporary buildings on the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College site at Ham would be removed within five years was expressed in a report from the town-planning committee to a meeting of the Waimairi County Council last evening. The council had asked the Tethers’ College Council for the undertaking, the committee reported. The college referred the request to the department, which had replied that it was intended to remove the temporary buildings at such time as the requirements of the secondary division had been fully met. According to minutes of the town-planning committee meeting, Cr F. J. Aitken had said that the college council had given the council to understand that the temporary buildings would be removed within five years. Cr 1. Calvert said that at a joint meeting in March, nothing had been said to indicate that the undertaking would not be given. The county chairman (Mr D. B. Rich) said that the undertaking appeared to be out of the hands of the college council, but he would discuss the question with the authorities.
