Extra Ward At Wigram
The bottom floor of a twostorey barrack block is being prepared as an emergency ward to cope with a growing number of influenza eases at the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Wigram. The barrack block is adjacent to the base sick quarters, which on Tuesday was full. According to an Air Force spokesman there were about 50 members of the base suffering from the ’flu on Tuesday, some of whom were being treated at home.
Medical staff at the base under the supervision of two part-time doctors are coping with the sickness.
Six weeks ago about 140 key Air Force staff received influenza vaccine and, according to the spokesman, none of these people had been laid up. Tbe camp doctor at Burnham Military Camp said on Tuesday there were no cases of influenza there.
