Champion Show Dog In Chch
An Australian dog show champion Dobermann pin- I scher worth $4OO arrived in I Christchurch yesterday to ' become the mate of the New Zealand champion bitch of the breed. The imported four-year-old was bought by Mr B. Gamble, of Opawa, from a Melbourne breeder. The Dobermann pinscher, developed in Germany in 1890, has become popular in New Zealand since it was first imported about nine years ago. There are about 200 of them in New Zealand, of which about 100 are in Christchurch. Mr Gamble says that improvements to the strain have eliminated a vicious streak in the dog and he expects it will Increase in popularity.
