BOWLING CENTRE

More Members This Season From figures supplied last season, the total number of bowlers belonging to clubs affiliated to the Christchurch Bowling Centre is 5380, an increase of 121 on the total for the 1968-1969 season. Memberships of the 72 affiliated clubs are listed in the president’s report, to be presented to the 61st annual meeting of the centre next Monday. The two largest clubs are still Fendalton and Elmwood, which have 290 members and 241 members respectively. Next come Canterbury (191), Burnside (166), Shirley (137) and Woolston W.M.C. (134). A further 14 have more than 100 names on their books. The smallest Club in the centre is Mayfield, which has 13 members. Other clubs to have less than 20 are Cust, Waikari and Woodend. In 29 clubs membership dropped, and in nine others it remained unchanged. The main boost to the over-all total came with the 45 members brought into the new club established by the Papanui W.M.C., although many of them probably belonged to other clubs’* previously. The largest increases at established clubs were at Canterbury, which had 23 new members, and at the Woolston W.M.C., where the total rose by 21.
