Agostini (Italy) made sure of his fifth successive 500 c.c. championship title when he won the East German motor-cycle Grand Prix on Sunday. Agostini, who became the first rider to win five successive 500 c.c. world championships, gained an unbeatable 73-point lead in the 500 c.c. table when he won the East German race. The Italian on an MVAgusta, lapped every rider except the second-placed Australian, J. Dodds, on a Linto, as he clocked Ihr 3min 45.1 sec in the 112.38-mile event.

He averaged 105.75 m.p.h. and clocked a fastest lap of 2min 59.25ec at a speed of 107.46 ffl.p.h.
