Belts Are Popular

(By NORMAN HARTNELL) Belts have never been more popular. Hipster chain or chain-and-leather belts (especially fringed) are currently top of the pops. It is quite easy to make your own belts. Before you start, decide what sort of belt (width and style) is the best for you. The more matronly figure needs a narrow or selfbelt, but if your figure is too matronly wear no belt at all. If you have a small waist and a flat diaphragm, wear a wide belt. A full skirt nipped in at the waist by a wide belt also helps to disguise full hips. Belts in contrasting colours can pick up a tone in a print, or highlight a dark or neutral shade. Patent Leather Remember that colour around the waist draws the eye to it, so that if you do not have a tiny waist, go for a self-belt in :< colour or fabric matching the dress. If you want to wear something different but nothing daring, go for black leather or patent, or even pastel leather. Be sure your belt matches the colour of the dress buttons. If the buttons are pearl, use a patent leather or calf belt. Patent leather goes well with jet buttons too. but all leathers look right with metal ’•buttons. o
