PROMOTION LACK

Per head consumption of beef and veal in New Zealand is declining and lack of promotion of beef is seen as being one of the factors in this.

Mr D. W. Picot, executive vice-president (administration) of Foodtown Supermarkets, Ltd, of Auckland, said this week that consumption had fallen by about 121 b per head compared with before World War II to 107.1 lb per head per year. One factor would be fresh poultry, although it was not very significant in New Zealand yet, Mr Picot said in looking for the reasons for the decline, but when the promotion of fresh poultry was taken into account he asked whether anything was ever heard about beef. A lack of stimulation of interest in beef was certainly a factor in the decline.
