WORLD YOUTH ASSEMBLY

It was proposed to send five New Zealand delegates to the World Youth Assembly in New York next month, said the president of the National Youth Council (Mr A. J Johnson, of Christchurch), said yesterday. The assembly will run from July 6 to 18. The only South Islander in the party is Miss E. J. Doig, aged 21, of Dunedin, a Girl Guide leader who has been a Volunteer Service Abroad representative in Western Samoa.

The others are Mr M. P Cracknell, aged 21, of Auckland, president of the Auckland University Maori Club; Miss A. Smith, aged 17, deputy head girl of Melville High School, Hamilton, whose interests include the Girls' Life Brigade; Mr R. D. MacRae, aged 21, of Wellington, who has been active in scout, Boys’ Brigade, and Presybterian Church work; and Mr G. W. Salmon, aged 20. a foundation member of Teen Aid, and , who serves on the Young Peoples Committee of the National Youth Council and is president of Action for

International Development (A.1.D.). Mr Salmon will lead the delegation. The delegates were selected by the National Youth Council in conjunction with the United Nations Association of New Zealand. The assembly is being held as part of the twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations of the United Nations.
