Dissatisfied With Act
More than 450 Post Office workers, from Cheviot in the north to Timaru in the south, expressed unanimous dissatisfaction with the effects of the new State Services Remuneration Act when they met in Christchurch this week.
They were told by the national president and general secretary of the Post Office Association (Messrs J. G. Stapleton and I. E. Reddish) that clerical workers in general had lost ground compared with post office tradesmen. This applied to workers in the Post Office Savings Bank, the postal branch and the clerical branch. A telegram will be sent to the Postmaster-General (Mr G. Searle) telling him that the public might receive poorer service because of the unattractiveness of the Post Office as an employer. , The chairman of the Christ-. church section of the P.O.A. (Mr L. R. Casey) said yesterday that there was consider-! able unrest among the staff! affected, and further action j would be considered at the| next meeting of the section. I
