School Cadet Units
Sir,—No doubt Sir Hamilton Mitchell and his cronies
r will add their names to that j of Sir Peter Phipps in sup- . port of the retention of the archaic school cadet system ‘ in spite of the logical argu- ; ments against continuation - given on page 1 of "The Press” of’June 11. “Ham” ' writes that he had dealings . I with cadet units "before, si during and after the last war,” that is, about 20 years ! ago. Il may therefore come as i a shock to him to find out that boys today do not get “a - sense of discipline, self re- ; spect and esprit de corps" ’ from cadets. If this were the case, all schools would try to keep cadets rather than re- ; linquish them. Because the '< system does not do what he believes, it is obsolete and unnecessary.—Yours, etc., ! MARK STONE. June 13, 1970.
