N.Z. TEAM NAMED
Czech Tour Tests (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Two Canterbury p) tyers—K. [Hessell and P. Stigley—have won places in the New Zealand men’s basketball team to play Czechoslovakia next month. The players were named yesterday by the sole selector (Mr T. Wright) after a week-end of intensive trials and a coaching clinic in Wellington. The team is: P. Bevin (Wellington); J. Tonner (Palmerston North); D. Taylor (Nelson, captain); Hessell. Stigley (Canterbury); J. McDonald (Otago): R. Piddock, C. Pardon, N. G. Pettis (Auckland). The surprise omissions are G. Rapson (Wellington), who has been an almost automatic selection in national teams since 1967, and P. Jackson (Auckland).
The captain of the side, Taylor. is the most experienced member of the team, and the oldest, at 25. New Zealand play Czechoslovakia at Tauranga on July 28 and at Auckland the day after.
