Russia and Czechoslovakia were level, 1-1, after the first day of their Davis Cup, European zone, Section B semifinal tennis tie yesterday. J. Kodes gave Czechoslovakia the lead when he beat T. Lejus, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5, in the opening singles match. A. Metreveli then put the Russians level with a 6-1, 6-0, 6-2, win over the Czech. No. 2, J. Kukal.
