RECORD EXPORTS
Fish Receipts May Be sl6m
(N Z Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 11.
New Zealand exported a record amount of fish last year, a spokesman for the Fishing Industry Board said today. He said receipts for the year were expected to be more than sl6m—a three-fold increase since 1966, when fish export receipts totalled ss.Bm. In 1968 they were $14.6m. By far the greatest proportion of the industry’s export income comes from crayfish, the bulk of which goes to North America. Last year’s receipts from this item are expected to reach sl4m. Exports of ordinary fish increased by substantial amounts to some countries, including Japan, the Netherlands, West Germany, Samoa, New Guinea, the United States, Fiji, French Polynesia, Nauru, Gilbert and Ellice Islands, Sweden and Cyprus. “However, Australia still takes the bulk of our wet fish exports,” the spokesman said. “So far we are keeping ahead of the export targets set by the National Development Conference.”
