Dublin Arms Case
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) DUBLIN, June 11.
A Dublin district court has remanded five defendants, including two retired Cabinet Ministers, until Monday on a charge of conspiring to import arms into the Republie illegally. It was the third remand for the former Minister of Finance, Charles Haughey, and Minister of Agriculture, Neil Blaney, and for their three co-defendants.
Counsel for the prosecution (Mr Edward Durnin) told the court that everything was being done to expedite the proceedings but police investigations were not yet complete.
Mr Durnin also submitted a new form of charge, which was read to the five men, who appeared together for the first time.
Previously, each had been charged separately, but today they were charged with conspiring together to import arms.
Haughey and Blaney were removed from office on May 6 by the Prime Minister (Mr Lynch) on suspicion of conspiring to import $200,000 worth of arms from Vienna for use by the Roman Catho lie minority in Northern Ireland.
All five pleaded not guilty to the charge.
